Hall of Stars Inductees - 1996

Bob L. Vogel '47

Bob was a three sport athlete at Harding.  He played football, hockey, and baseball.  He was All Conference and led the Harding teams in all three sports - he was a fierce competitor and great leader.  "The sports I played at Harding enabled me to meet people I will remember all of my life.  The camaraderie you have with these people will last a lifetime.  It all started from my days at Harding."

Don Eliason '36

Don was a three sport athlete at Harding.  He played football, basketball, and baseball where he excelled in all three.  He was All Conference in football, went on to Hamline University, and later professional ball.  Don also wrote for The Beacon and The Pyramid.  Don was selected for the Harding Hall of Fame and has been very active with the Harding Alumni.

Jerry Schaber '47

Jerry was a three sport athlete at Harding.  He played and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball.  He was a great leader and won many awards and honors at Harding including "St. Paul Athlete of the Year in 1946.  He was "the" class president his sophomore, junior, and senior years.  He was Homecoming king his senior year and a member of the National Honor Society.  Jerry went on to Hamline University where he continued his fine play and great success.

Paul Holmgren '73

Paul played three sports at Harding for three years.  He played football, hockey, and baseball.  He won many awards and honors at both Harding and then in his college career at the University of Minnesota.  Paul then continued his career in the National Hockey League as both a player and a coach.  Paul says, "I am proud to be from the East Side and equally proud to be a graduate of Harding High School."

Mark Mauer '77

Mark was a three sport atlete at Harding and excelled in all three.  He played football, basketball, and baseball and was All Conference in all three sports.  Mark was a great worker, leader, and an inspiration to his teammates.  Mark won many honors, awards, and received many commendations.  Mark continued his career at Nebraska where he played, coached, and had great success.  Mark has returned to the community and is now involved in local government.

Mary Lee Hanson Nelson '80

Mary played softball and gymnastics all three years and lettered all three years.  Mary Lee was a Prep Athlete of the Week and All Conference for three years.  Her pitching record was 54 wins and 3 losses.  Mary Lee was All Metro and All State in softball all three years.  She attended the U of M and pitched there all four years.  She is married to Steve '77 and a mother to two sons.

Carolyn Biebighauser '81

Carolyn played basketball and softball for three years and lettered all three years.  She was All Conference and All State was a fierce competitor in both sports.  Carolyn said, "I had the pleasure of playing with a dedicated and talented group of young women who shared the same desire to become the best.  We played for the state championship in both sports!  The personal recognition I received was due in large part to my stellar teammates and my inspiring coaches!"  Carolyn works for the State of Minnesota.

Shannon Loeblein '91

Shannon participated in four sports at Harding.  She excelled in basketball and participated in track, tennis, and softball.  Shannon was a great team player and team leader.  She had a knack for helping and motivating young players on the court and in the classroom - she was a "great leader"!  Shannon continued her career at the University of Minnesota where she had a great career both on and off the court.  Shannon earned many honors and awards - Miss Basketball her senior year for the State of Minnesota was one of many highlights.

Mike Kissell '84

Mike had a "great" teaching and coaching career at Harding.  He taught Physical Education and coached several sports.  He coached B football, head track, cross country, and gymnastics.  His gymnastic teams won 12 straight conference championships and produced many outstanding gymnasts.  Mike's track and cross country teams were always one of the top teams in the City Conference.  Many of his athletes went on to distinguish themselves in college and post Harding life.  "A great career!"

Kenneth J. Mauer '90

Ken coached football for 19 years at Harding.  His teams won many championships and advanced several times in state playoffs.  He coached and helped develop several Division One players.  He coached girls' softball and again, his teams won many championships and advanced to the state softball tourney and finished as high as second in the state.  Ken's teams were always well prepared and always represented Harding well.  Ken won over 100 football games at Harding and coached longer than any coach in St. Paul.  "A great career!"
